As we have the physiologic stages of life, the psychosocial and psychosomatic stages of growth and development physically, so also we have in the realm of the Spirit!
There is a picture you expect a baby to look like physically after 2 good years of living. You don’t expect the baby as a 5-year old child crawling.
If, for an instance, after two years, the baby is neither walking nor talking, you know there is a serious fire on the mountain that needs prompt attention!
As a man needs food in stages to grow physically, so he needs food to grow spiritually, and spiritual stuntedness should be in same vein as great as an alarm as physical stuntedness!
As physical growth is measurable, so also is spiritual growth measurable. You can know, by the spirit, this was where you were then, and this is where you are now!
We have measured, in mistake, spiritual progress with very wrong parameters, as gifts and anointing. As great as they are, that is not all that there is as proofs of growth.
Not even longevity in the faith; longevity in the faith does not automatically translate to growth; it has never been and will never be about years of being born again!
Spiritual growth and cognizance can make a 13 years old in faith farther mature than one who claims 30 years of being born again. And as a matter of fact, overtaking is allowed in the realm of the spirit!
Spiritual growth is not church/programmes’ attendance. The best you can be as a church attendee/worker outside of relationship with God is a church addict so versed in church rituals as such.
It will interest you to know that praying in tongues itself is not the height of spiritual growth and spirituality, not even fasting!
There are many carnal believers who even pray in tongues without changing, many who live their lives emotionally and intellectually.
They tend to have a double life; a life of rationality and philosophy they refer to as ‘the normal life’ where they use their ‘common sense’ and ‘exaggeration of intellectualism’ in detriment to spiritual health and acclaimed another, they switch to, called ‘the Christian life’ where they feel spiritual!
Many have disconnected from their source of strength and sustenance, yet engage spiritual exercise; no tangible progress can consequently be measured from time given until now.
And you cannot remain stagnant in the Spirit, the clock keeps ticking, the time keeps going, to have remained stagnant is to have gone back; and that explains their very carnal cognitive faculty and conceptual understanding, no spiritual intelligence whatsoever!
